What’s in a Song? Covers basic songwriting skills with interaction and tailoring for age groups and experience. Patricia explains songwriting in a way that's easy to understand and empowering. Everyone can write a verse!

WomenFolk in Music: This program includes folk and blues songs by and about women with snippets of history and biography...from Mother Maybelle Carter, to Malvina Reynolds, to Rosalie Sorrells, to Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, Sippie Wallace, and Rosie the Riveter too. All of these women were contemporaries of each other, spanning about 10-15 years in their birth dates. All made their living and their life making music; All of them were also regular gals who faced challenges in life as well as being “larger than life”--  facing huge challenges and being famous.  They were also very different, though, and unique.

I’m excited to share this because these women are part of our American history, and because they are inspiring…especially to me — because I’m a folk and blues singer & songwriter—but I think inspiring to all of us because of what they overcame and what they added to our culture…proving that you can’t keep a good WOMAN (MAN or PERSON) down.

Also, in presenting these women’s lives and their songs, I’m carrying on the folk tradition.  Just as I’m related to my own family, I am related to these women through the folk lineage, and I’m proud and pleased about that.  Some of these women have written songs about each other and I’ve written songs about some of them.  That’s really passing on the tradition!
